Teamwork is key

Dr. Volker Eisenmann is part of the business unit Crop Protection and responsible for the registration of products in Latin America. To ensure absolutely smooth market rollouts overseas, all employees at the international level must join forces. Teamwork is the essence here.

“Frequently our colleagues from Business Development are involved; people who have a scientific background and who discuss the findings of studies.”

Before a new Crop Protection product is brought to market, a number of preparations need to be made. This is when Dr. Volker Eisenmann and his team come into play: “We set up project groups that meet at regular intervals to monitor studies, field trials and authority progress”, explains the Head of Department Regulatory Affairs Latin America. To him, this is a regular and vital element of his work. He acts as project coordinator in various development projects. “Everyone makes their contribution and hierarchy fades into the background”, Volker emphasises.

A group generally consists of four to six colleagues. “We meet in many and various group settings,” says Volker. “Frequently our colleagues from Business Development are involved; people who have a scientific background and who discuss the findings of studies. In addition, employees from Marketing are usually attending. They tend to focus on procurement and sales aspects.”

It becomes particularly exciting for Volker when teamwork is necessary on an intercontinental scale. For instance, he is in close contact daily with the HELM foreign offices in Latin America. “There is at least one contact responsible for product registration at each branch office.” Communications are generally handled by e-mail or phone, and sometimes video-conferences are held. Personal visits on-site are also part of the program and tend to reinforce the sense of belonging to a single unit. “We all simply join forces,” says Volker, delighted with the prevailing team spirit.

“Everyone makes their contribution.”
